FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) today announced that Michael J. Mulligan, 43, has been appointed as president of the company’s General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products subsidiary. He will report to Charles M. Hall, executive vice president and group executive for General Dynamics’ Combat Systems business group.
Mulligan has more than 20 years of experience in managing complex defense programs for General Dynamics. Most recently, he was vice president of operations for General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products. Previously he was the site manager for General Dynamics Electric Boat’s SSGN conversion program at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, where he was responsible for all aspects of the conversion of two Trident-class submarines.
In announcing his appointment, Hall said, “Mike Mulligan has demonstrated his ability to lead customer-focused, high-performance engineering and production organizations that are responsible for some of today’s most advanced defense technologies, as well as his business acumen. I am confident General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products will continue to excel under his leadership.”
Mulligan had been with Electric Boat since 1985, beginning as an engineer on the Seawolf-class submarine program. Beginning in 2000, he advanced through a series of progressively more-responsible positions on the Virginia-class submarine program, ultimately serving as Deputy Program Manager for the Virginia-Class Design. He has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lowell (Lowell, Mass.) and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, N.Y.). He was also a member of the 2006 Sloan Fellows Program in Innovation and Global Leadership at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), through which he earned a master’s of business administration.
