BURLINGTON, VT - General Dynamics Ordnance Systems (GDOS), a subsidiary of General Dynamics Armament Systems, has recently signed a contract with the Army's U.S. Tank - Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) and Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) for 56 additional sets of Reactive Armor Tiles for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. The contract is valued at $14.4 million.
"We are extremely proud to provide this product to significantly increase protection of Bradley Fighting Vehicles and their U.S. Army crews," said GDAS President, Linda Hudson. "The success of this program is a result of our excellent partnership with Rafael Ordnance Systems of Israel, the designer of these reactive armor tiles. This demonstrates the value of international cooperation between defense companies to provide quality products to the U. S. Government."
GDOS Reactive Armor Tiles offer a quickly installed and simple means of adding a significant improvement to a combat vehicle's ability to withstand a direct hit from a range of anti-armor munitions – and thus protecting its crew. These munitions include shoulder fired, rocket propelled grenades (RPGs), which are in abundant supply in many of today's regional conflicts.
GDAS designs, develops and produces complete armament systems for fixed and rotary wing aircraft, land and sea-based applications. The parent company, General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), is headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia. General Dynamics supplies sophisticated defense systems to the United States and its allies. Employing about 29,000 people, the company has annualized sales of approximately $5 billion.
