General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products Opens Mississippi Reactive Armor Manufacturing Facility
May 28, 2004

McHENRY, Miss. – General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), celebrated the grand opening of its Reactive Armor manufacturing facility in Stone County, Miss., today. Attendees included Senator Thad Cochran, U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor and General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products’ president Linda Hudson.

Situated on 465 acres of land leased by General Dynamics, the new 9,400 sq. ft. Reactive Armor facility is expected to boost total Stone County employment by General Dynamics and its collocated suppliers to 55 employees by the end of summer. General Dynamics established operations in Stone County, Miss., in 2002 to produce and assemble components in support of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) family of rockets, formerly known as Hydra-70. In August 2002, General Dynamics added a 16,000 sq. ft. facility to house Best Foam Fabricators, a supplier of specialty packaging materials for the rocket program.

"This opening is a testimony to the commitment that General Dynamics is making to this region and to the employees that work here," said Senator Thad Cochran. "Programs such as Reactive Armor have made a vital and positive impact on saving the lives of our soldiers in Iraq, where over 400 sets of this add-on armor have been installed on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle."

Equipped with General Dynamics’ reactive armor, the Bradley Fighting Vehicle is better able to withstand a direct hit from a variety of anti-armor munitions, including shoulder-fired rocket propelled grenades, which are in abundant supply in many of today’s regional conflicts.
